Mary Cox, Georgia Baptist Convention ministry coordinator for minister's wives, announced a new minister's wife award to be given every year. The award was named after Trudy Price, pastor of Nelson Price, long-time pastor at Roswell Street Baptist in Marietta (right pic). "One of the greatest things I see is how many minister's wives enjoy being a minister's wife," Cox said. "Sometimes, we wonder what we're supposed to do and we have to remember that God chose you. We're called to be encouragement and support for our husbands. I can't think of a better person than Trudy Price who exemplifies Godly character and who will be a great example of serving alongside her husband."
Trudy Price is a graduate of Louisiana State University. She "walked out of a sorority house and two weeks later was living in a parsonage," said her husband, Nelson Price. "She had never been to a funeral in her life and we had five of them the first week." Trudy Price is the mother of two and grandmother of four adult grandchildren. She taught 12th grade Sunday school for 25 years and 3rd grade for 10 years. She also worked as a volunteer at the local hospital for 35 years.
The first recipient of the annual Trudy Price Award was given to Gloria Baxter, she stands next to her daughter, Carol Kirby. She is the widow of Bob Baxter, who served almost 50 years at Mt. Harmony Baptist in Mableton. She and her husband were ministry partners for more than 53 years. She worked in WMU at the church and state level and also taught single young adults in Sunday school for 40 years. She and her husband attended all children's and youth camps as well as other church functions. "She is a true, great example of what a minister's wife does, going alongside her husband. She always looks like she's having fun," said Mary Cox. Gloria Baxter is accompanied in the photo by her daughter, Carol. |
